Highlighter is a beauty product I’ve grown to love over the last few months, and I’ve had my eyes on The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer ever since I started using highlighter regularly. A couple of weeks ago I finally decided to add it to my collection. I’m a sucker for packaging, so it’s a given that I love The Balm’s retro-inspired designs and quirky puns. The Mary-Lou Manizer comes in a sturdy compact case with a mirror on the inner side, which is always useful for topping up when travelling.
One of my worries was that the highlighter would be too overpowering for my pale skin tone, but luckily that isn’t a problem. The shade is a golden honey colour which would suit virtually any skin tone. It gives off a lovely glow that you can build up to your liking – I usually only apply a small amount to avoid looking too shimmery. The soft glow means you can use this as an everyday highlighter and easily build it up for a night look.
The powder has a velvety-smooth texture that makes it really easy to blend into your skin. To apply it you could use your fingertips, but I tend to use a brush to highlight my cheekbones as I find this stops it from getting patchy or uneven. In my experience, it has great staying power and I haven’t had to top it up before.
For just over £17, The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer isn’t the cheapest option but I find powder highlighters always last a long time. I purchased mine when a discount was available and have been using it often, so I'm definitely getting my use out of it.
