Travel Diary: Chania, Crete

Chania, Crete Travel Diary

This is part two of my trip to Crete, focusing on my trip to stunning Chania/Hania, Crete's second largest city after Heraklion. We decided to hire out a scooter for the day and take in the sights of Crete, making stops along the way (and eagerly topping up suncream!) I’d heard amazing reviews about Chania and couldn’t wait to explore the Old Venetian Harbour and narrow shopping streets. We were told it was only a twenty-minute journey along a straight road, it sounded simple enough, but as expected we still managed to find ourselves lost and asking locals for directions...

Once we arrived and started to explore, I instantly realised why everyone recommends a visit. We walked through the charismatic twisted streets and browsed the shops, which were bursting with charming handmade pieces. One of my favourites was a shop jam-packed with colourful, patterned bowls colours and unique ornaments. We then came out onto the stunning Old harbour. We wandered along the picturesque waterfront and admired the Venetian lighthouse before stopping for a much-needed iced coffee in the shade. I’m so happy I got the chance to visit Chania, my only wish is that I had stayed there for longer.
